I have a sears 2hp router model# 315.275100. Is anyone familiar with this router? If so, can you tell me how to hold the shaft so I can loosen the collet?

I have one of those, it has a red button on the top of the motor housing that you push to lock the center shaft, then use a 7/8" wrench to loosen the collet. There is also a red light in the housing that tells you that the motor is turned on and the shaft is locked, so it won't try to run and damage the motor. You may have to turn the shaft to get the lock to set, it doesn't set just anywhere you choose, it has positions that it set in easily. Hope this helps out.
Thanks, I tried that before and it did not work, but now that I know that is what it is for I forced it a little and it worked. Thanks you very much.
I hope you didn't actually force anything. Just jiggling the shaft a little will help the lock engage it's slot. I'd highly recommend unplugging the tool when changing bits, indicator light or not.Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
You are correct on that for sure, but it will tell you if you happen to plug it in and the latch is still on, you know it. I found that good when I set it all up in my router table and turn it on, and the thing doesn't do anything. I get the duhhh, you forgot something feeling and go on. :-) For sure we should always be safety consious to keep all our digits in place.
