Tom (tms) has suggested we might have a gathering of Seattle area WWers at his place in Fremont. Nothing specific yet, but we’d like to get a “roll call” of folks in the (greater) Seattle area (that includes you, Dennis!).
If you’re around the Puget Sound somewhere, or interested in travelling, pipe up! It’s a no-obligation thing.

I'm a ww'er and commercial carpenter in the Woodinville area.
Hi Mark,Since I'm the one suggesting a meeting in Seattle, I guess I should introduce myself.I am an amature woodworker since the days I followed my old man around his shop about 45+ years ago. I have had several garage and basement shops over the years, and now I'm fortunate to have a dedicated building to work in.My current shop is an old 1913 Vaudeville theater that has variously been a laundry, an automobile repair shop and a white water rafting shop, just to name a few.The building has both a retail front and a shop in the back. I'm hoping to make the front a gallary and meeting place for local woodworkers. I also have a side lot for ourdoor projects and have a pipe dream of an outdoor pavilion for summer projects. My woodworking intrests are varied, but next projects will be a pair of rocking chairs.Tom
Does Wenatchee count ;)Monte
For sure!Provided you're willing to come down off the mountain for a spell. It's pretty wet down here today.Tom
Freezing rain over here!Keep the clouds and rain on your side!!!:)
Hello, Iam in, I live in the Clearview/ Maltby area just north of Woodenville & using my garage as a workshop but Iam just starting to build a large shop in the back part of my place.
Can those of us in Moses Lake come too? I might be able to find 3 or 4 guys here.
Anyone who's willing to drive over it more than welcome! Seatac airport has lots of non-stop flight to/from points east, LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Jamie (& Tom)
For the entire time I've been involved in BBS messaging and now the Internet chat groups, it's always been a delight to put a face with the ascii I enjoy chatting with. Yep .... I'd love to attend a meeting "down there" - relative to Clear Lake (That's between Mt. Vernon and Sedro-Woolley, by the way).
Keep us posted!

Hey, did you guys already have your fest? I'm not too far from the Fremont Troll.
Not yet.Forest Girl came by to check out my shop and discuss the prospect of a meeting. Along the way we sharpend a card scraper and talked about her latest project.I am seriously interested in having a Northwest Knotheads get together. But as I explained to Jaime, the plumbing in my 1913 shop would be more reliable after the rainy season, and I thought that maybe a beer or two would make that an important consideration.Stay tuned,
Tom
Tom ,
I hadn't viewed this thread until now , but as far as the old plumbing goes , hey howz a bout renting a KYBO ? Lets not let a short piece of pipe stop a good time .
dusty
KYBO?I can guess from the context, but spell it out for me anyway. Thanks,
TomBTW- that's not the sort of suggestion I was soliciting, but who knows? it might be the most valuable one.Edited 1/28/2005 11:50 pm ET by tms

Oh man... that's an old Boys Scout acronymn for Keep Your Bowels Open, or something like that.
Tom ,
Nuwhuh has got it right , an out house , Andy Gump or Porta Potty .
dusty
Oh yea,I got that far, I was just puzzled by the acronym. This thread also hijacked "madrone" (but you knew that) where Jamie offered to demonstrate how to resaw two foot thick spalted maple balks, in addition to the burnisher demo.I'm gonna order a first aid kit.Tom
No Worry , I have a feeling you may have a few old Boy Scouts on hand . Just have plenty of masking tape on hand and perhaps something to ease the pain in the form of an elixir . The events and conversations as of late are quite entertaining to say the least . This could be be construed as communication ?

"Jamie offered to demonstrate how to resaw two foot thick spalted maple balks, in addition to the burnisher demo." Jeeeeez, Tom, would you stop it already?! Tom, were you thinking of starting an organiztion for woodworkers of all backgrounds and levels? I've heard that there are numerous ww'ers in the area, but I've only met few. Of course I haven't participated in any of the existing guild meetings so I'm just speculating.Newm.
Hey Newhuh,Well, you're getting a little ahead of me, but in a way, that is what I was hoping for. Many years ago, I worked at a place called "The Wooden Boat Shop", and two or three times a year, there was a woodworkers' guild that met there to compare techniques and swap stories. It was the best part of working there (apart from the employee discount on tools).I thought that if we got a collection of Northwest Knotheads together, someone else might have that bright idea as well. Tom
Your plan sounds very good. I think a less-than-formal type of meetings are great for people who don't have the time to meet regularly and/or for those newbies who are too intimidated to participate.Oh, there's always Dad Watson's. Great place for a lage gathering.Newman
Tom -I respect the fact that all of us who intend to participate in the gathering drink responsibly. None the less, I have a cardinal rule that goes something like "Alcohol and Sawdust do Not Mix". Meaning of course, once the cork comes out of the jug, the machines stay idle. That's just my personal feeling - Not wanting to throw a wet blankie on the party idea but don't want anyone to get hurt, either............

Dennis
I'm with you Dennis,I had thought that we could postpone the party until after a tour of the shop and whatever demonstrations anyone wanted to give. Then I had planned to descretely lockout the breaker box.Tom
Dennis, no worries. I think we're all on the same page with the safety thing. Besides, I've met Tom -- he must have said "Careful, don't cut yourself" eight times while he was demonstrating the scraper-thing. Unfortunately, he wasn't standing next to me yesterday when I got careless with that shave hook, LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Yep, I surveyed the proposed gathering spot and gave it an A+!!! Tom wanted to wait until he'd done "a little more" with the front area. I suggested a couple card tables with some pizza ought to be more than enough, LOL!
You guys are in for a treat! It's a great place -- my dream shop. A wonderful place for demos and discussions if it gets to be that formal. In the meantime, we could just have a party and mingle, as they say.
Tom: Can I bring my Mike's Light?? I'm not a big beer fan (yep, leave to a woman, LOL!)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hey Jamie,You're too kind, but I think I do have to draw the line at card tables in the shop. Now, sawhorses and 3/4" plywood, that I can see.Mike's? Well, okay if that's your poison. You are, after all, venturing to the land of tolerance (Fremont) where the motto is, "Querkis Libertas" (Freedom to be Strange). No kidding! As for food, I thought that we might be able to enlist the talents of Lorenzo Lorenzo, the proprietor of the Cuban restautant, next door, to help us roast a pig. Please don't tell me that you're a vegan.Tom
A vegan?! Not a chance! On those occasional occasions that Nick takes me out for prime rib, he always ends up threatening to shoot the darned thing before I dig in with knife and fork. I love beef! Rare please, with a capital R. Haven't been to a party with a roasted pig as the "guest of honor" since I was in college. That'd be great! Who knows, I might even remember this party, LOL! (ahhhhh, those were the good 'ol days; don't party like that anymore!)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hey, I thought Fremont was the "Center of Universe?" At least that's what the sign near the genuine statue of V.I. Lenin says. Of course having magnificent Aurora Avenue hovering above you is the clearest indication that planets will align, and point directly to Fremont. :>
