I am considering selling my 20″ northwood planer bought in ’88 and runs great and has two sets of blades. I am thinking of getting a 20″ grisley spiral cutting head planer. How much is this machine worth?

"How much is this machine worth?" Whatever someone will pay for it. Take some time to search various forums and used tool sites (Google for used woodworking tools). Search eBay in the "completed auctions" and see if any have shown up there in the last 30 days.

thank you for the info.

Just curious - what are your reasons for the swap?

I guess that I am tired of the noise and have more money than sense, expept that I did not know you could exchange them, the head, for another one. Grisley did not indicate that I could, and I think that the planer may be so old that I could not get one, however, I plan to contact sunhill and see if they think I can fit one of the bard ones into it.

Have you looked at the Sunhill replacement head. They sell the Byrd which is a helical head versus the staggered knife design of the Grizzly. Might be better to upgrade by swapping the head. It's a better head than you would get on the Grizzly.
