The motor on my old Chicago Tool Co. drill press finally gave up the ghost and expired a couple of months ago. The company said they do not make replacement parts for that model any more. I have re-ordered a new drill press and need to dispose of the old one. Does anybody think there is a market for a drill press needing a motor? Or do I have to just put it out in the trash?

sell it to a scrap metal place and get a couple of bucks. trying to find a motor that would work and then making it work might be almost the cost of a new one.
Where are you located? Can you post a picture of the machine? Putting a generic motor on a well made drill press isn't so very difficult.
Even if the machine isn't worth a new motor, it definitely shouldn't go into landfill. Scrap steel has enough value that there are guys here who cruise our neighborhood in pickup trucks grabbing any metal items put out in the trash -- like file cabinets, aluminum screen doors, auto parts, etc. An old drill press would make their day.

I'll see if I can get a picture on the net.

Was it built in the 20' s or 30's ??
Not that old. As best I remember I bought it new in the early 60's. Hardly an antique, but has had much use, been moved around quite a bit and has some limiting features.
