Does anyone know of any companies that buy old woodworking machines. I have an old delta 34-400 that is not in the best of shape. The motor died and I am thinking about upgrading to a new TS instead of trying to hunt down a motor.
Can anyone help?
thanks,
Mark

Why not sell it direct to the buyer??? Craig's List would be a good, free and easy-to-use marketplace. eBay would be the other choice. You can make it pick-up only. For either, simply be straightforward and specific about its shortcomings and positives, ask a reasonable price.
I've sold an old lathe and an old cast-iron Craftsman contractors saw on eBay, got excellent money for them (neither had a motor). Packing was a serious drag, though, so pick-up is a great option.

Thanks! I guess I always assume that, even on E-bay, no one would want a broken old beaten-up table saw. Then again, one man's trash....
You just never know. If it's that beat-up, what's makin' you think a machinery place would want it? <g> forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
My ex wife used to hold a yearly garage sale to clear out our junk and make a few dollars. First couple of years I was astounded at what people would buy!!! Stuff I would NEVER have tried to sell. Made a believer out of me. By all means sell your stuff, shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.

Who me? I don't have any "stuff" to sell. At least not right now.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
That post was meant for bossjimmark. Sorry...

Check around some of the other woodworking forums that have a classified section.
Jeff--Same deal w/ my ex. Held a garage sale at my shop. On a whim, I bagged up (1/2 cu ft ea.) sawdust, AND THEY SOLD FOR A QUARTER EACH!Rocotoed
Old machines are a good sourse for spare, broken or missing parts. Why do we have junk yards??? Now there's a thought for an ambisious person. Scrapyard for old power tools.Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

A quarter each. That's way too cheap. Should have gotten at least a dollar.
No, my price was right. The sawdust was mostly chipboard and spruce.Ed
My price was right.
Just joking. And more power too you. I haul my sawdust out in the woods and dump it for fertilizer and tilth unless it has contaminants. Then it goes to the landfill
FWIW, I think Craigslist charges for classified ads.
Nope, you don't generally pay to post ads on craigslist. You must pay when you're advertising a job, to hire someone. My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
The only paid thing on Craig's List that I know of is "help wanted" ads in SF, NY and LA. Everything else is free.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
