I’m trying to build a semi-circle table. I looking for some hints on how to layout the table top. I’ve determined the dimensions I’d like(38wx15d) but I’m not sure that it will look right. Is there a formula for determining the correct dimensions. I haven’t found any info in my search of FWW back issues.
Your help would be greatly appreciated, Bekshun

First off half of 38" is not 15", Try 19". Get a beam compass and an old cardboard box from a grocey store or some particle board and do a full size layout. This way you will get an idea of the size and weather it is to big to fit into the area you are planning to put it. Lots of luck

As I recall, you thought 38x15 was to big. Try an elipse. 38" majior axis and 15" minor axis.(that will give you a 71/2" deep table or, You can vary the minor axis until you get something you like) The cardbord trick is a good suggestion. Sometimes when I want a curve and not an arc or elipse, I have a long tapered stick that I bend to produce a curve that I like, then trace along it's edge. The stick is about 3'-4' long and tapers from about 1/2" thick down to zero. Any wood will work as long as it's straight grained and knot free. i.e. uniform consistancy. The one I use happens to be cedar.
