Seriously, pages of ads in online PDF’s
I mean WTF!!! I’ve subscribed to your magazine for over 20 years and have been an online member for over 5 years and an Unlimited member since it started. Today I found myself reading “Make Your Own Spokeshave” (https://www.finewoodworking.com/membership/pdf/367688/011280076.pdf) and there are 3 FULL PAGES of ads and 4 pages of article. Puhleeeeez.
If you don’t have a programmer smart enough to check if the current user is logged in or not, then take the effing ads out for everyone. I pay over a hundred dollars a year to you folks. Figure it out.

It's not an online or programming issue. The online articles are exactly how they appear in the magazine. From the first to the last page of the article, whatever is in between will be in the pdf.
If ads bother you, then Popular Mechanics would really drive you nuts. They have pop-on video ads in addition to margin ads where you might accidently click and another page is overlaid on what you're trying to read. At least that doesn't happen in FWW. Ads provide funding for magazines and are probably inevitable - like it or not it seems to be reality.
No one likes excessive ads but I have come to accept that some ads are necessary to keep en enterprise such as this viable.
Until I find that everyone at Fine Woodworking has become embarrassingly wealthy off the publication and website, I can live with a few ads. I would draw the line at show-stopping pop-ups.
Not disagreeing with your point, festus, but wishing your tone wasn't so harsh, accusatory, and demanding. I find such satisfaction in sharing the pleasures and challenges of woodworking with others, and believe that the "programmer" you attack and all those who go to work each day at FWW and Taunton are doing their best and provide some great stuff.
There is no shortage of online forums that thrive on anger, aggression and criticism of others,if that's your thing.
Whoa, Festus, check out the drawer pulls! Guess you didn't get luck the draw-er pulls. Merry Christmas!
