I have recently, with my wife’s encouragement, been looking through my collection of various tools and gadgets. One of the things I have had for some time, but have used little or not at all, is a set of 10 TH Witherby mortising chisels. I say mortising because they have a straight edge with no bevel. They are in very good condition, still shiny, with no pitting, and little discoloration. They have the original handles (I assume, since they are all the same). They have seen minimal use. They are separated and contained in a box cornered oak box (redundant, I know)with a sliding top. It is probably not the original box they were purchased in. The sizes range from 2″ to 1/4″. I am considering offering these for sale, but have had little success in getting even a ball park estimate of what the set is likely to be worth. I have seen similar individual chisels listed anywhere from $30 to $50 or more. Any ideas on where such information might be found?

E-bay is one and do you ever look in the back of FWW in the classifieds? Plenty of honorable tool dealers list there like Bob Kaune, etc. http://www.woodcentral.com and http://www.sawmillcreek.org have very active handtool forums and links to antique tools sellers.
