Hi,
I am quite new into wood work and have collect several old hand tools from the flea market over the years.
I have recently started to covert some crosscut back saws into rip cut. Basically I followed the method used by Tom Law in his video on sharpening saw.
I have done an 18 TPI Stanley dovetail saw and a 21 TPI old ET Roberts old dovetail saw. So far the saw cut resonably well compared to state when I got them from the flea market.
My question is when I need to re set these saws or other older doetail saw with between 15 TPI to 21 TPI, what saw set should I get. Will a stanley 42 , 42X or 422 be suitable?
Will appreciate some referrence.

The 42X, 42 and 442 are best for saws 18 gauge or less and 10pts. or less. The 42W is for 4-16 pts. and has markings on the wheel. The 42W and 422 pistol grip is considered one of the best. You will have to reshape the hammer for very fine TPI.
