I am new at routing, with an older plunge router (Skil 1870). I cannot seem to get the depth settings correct, and I’ve not yet found anything that really helps. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

Many thanks.
Plunge your router down until the bit touches the work piece then adjust your depth stop to the depth that you want to achieve.
Thanks much.
I have a little story on a technique I use for setting a plunge router that is quick and very accurate for when you need that precision. See the link below.
