hey guys! i just finished putting in my resharpened knives on my 8″ jointer. i set them with a dial indicator and all the blades are at nearly dead zero with the outfeed table. But………….! in the middle of one of the blades i’m reading .003 thousands high. is it me or is the knife sharpened wrong.
thanks

Jeff,
If you test all three knives using the exact same set up for measuring, and only one shows a high spot, then the fault is most likely with the knife or its installation.
It is possible that the knife was ground with a crown in it, but it is also possible that there is something in the groove in the head that is bowing the knife.
The best approach would be to remove the offending knife and hold it against a good straightedge to see if the ground edge is straight. If the knife is straight, replace it on the machine after cleaning up the knife slot with steel wool or an abrasive pad.
Hopefully this will identify the problem. It is also possible that the slight crown will have little practical effect on using the jointer and it can be ignored.
