Setting straight knives on a Jointer/Planer combination.

Hi everyone
Recently I became a proud owner of a Record Power Pt107, a combination jointer/planer. When I bought it second hand. The knives where removed. Now I want to place the knives back in the cutter head, but seeing I don’t have the original knives as a reference for my handy record power planter knives jig, I am in a little bit of a struggle to set the knives. There is a lot of information about setting jointer knives, but seeing this is a combination machine, I was wondering if I set the knives based on the jointer, it would influence the depth of cut of the planer. Seeing they both use the same cutter head. How can I manually set the blades, while insuring I get precise results with both the jointer as the planer. Anyone got some tips for me?
Thanks!

Not familiar with that machine, but my favorite tool for setting blades is dial indicator attached to a magnetic base. While this level of precision isn't required. It just easy to know exactly where you blades are in relation to the table. Great for troubleshooting problems too.
I hve tried different ways but I keep coming back to this. It is about the only place I use an indicator. Don't use it to set up my table saw, just not needed.
The knives need to be set in relation to the outfeed table on the jointer. It is stationary. Everything else ( depth of cut) is manually adjusted by you. If the knives are properly set for the jointer then logically they will also be correct for the planer.
On my machine , a Grizzly, the manual gave me a specific number and said that that number was factory set and that there is no adjustment necessary for the right side of the outfeed table. It isn't necessary because there is no adjustment! I drove myself nuts trying to use a dial indicator until I realized that the number that they said it was supposed to was actually something else. Once I figured out what that was then I was able to make the table adjustment( parallel to the cutter head) then the knives. I've used both a dial indicator and the straight edge method setting knives for jointers and either way I end up in the same place.
