Any hints for a quicker setup when using my PC dovetailing jig and 14 degree 1/2″ bit with template? I have lost the manual from long ago, which advised bit projection. I recall it was something like 17/32″. I have a dial caliper, but this trial and error, burning up the scrap lumber, seems to be wrong. Is there a trick to it?

You didn't say, so I'm guessing that you are talking about the 12" PC jig and not an Omnijig. If that is the case, the set up should be very much like the other 50 similar designs. (Although, unfortunately you lost what are widely considered to be the clearest set of instructions for this type of jig.) Over on the August Home Woodsmith Magazine site in their on-line extras there is an article from the magazine all about setting up and using a half-blind dovetail jig. The article is in PDF format. Here is the address of the on-line extras page including the link to the "Dovetail Jig - Technique Article":

Here is a similar article from the August Home Workbench Magazine:

Hope it helps.

One of the best procedures for dovetail setup is listed step by step in a book called Woodworking with the Router. Here it lists and demonstrates several jigs and setups. It made my first dovetailing project a success.
