Can anyone advise me on a shaker wall clock mechanical movement. I would like a good one as I have been told some will only last a year or two before the bushings go out whereas others will last 20 plus years. I will use the FWW #157 wall clock as an example but need to select a movement.
Thanks in advance

There are plenty of sources but here's one.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Sorry to be slow in responding with thanks but I have been out of town.
I have looked at the klockit web site but how do I select a movement? I do not know wehere to start other than I want a mechanical. I would like for it to fit into something like the shaker wall clock in FWW 157.

Shaker movement
In the article he mentions using a banjo movement from Merritt's Antiques but does not say which model. Any idea which one he is talking about. I would think that one from Klockit would be one he talks about that would last four years and then have to be repaired or replaced.
I’ve bought 6 movements from klockit in the last 10 years and haven’t had a problem with any of them. The important thing to remember is to oil them once a year with the right kind of oil and keeping the movement free of dust.
Usually you won’t find bushings on clock movements unless they are very high end or the movement has been repaired sometime in it’s past. The cheaper movements us a softer material (soft brass) for the front and back plates, the steel pins on the end of the gear shaft ride in holes in these plates and will wear them into an oblong shape over time. It happens to all clock movements and when it does the hole can be reamed out and a bushing pressed in.
I would suggest reading up on mechanical clock repair, it’ll take some of the mystery out of the subject.
Sorry to take so long to say thanks but I have been out of town.
Thanks to both you and Bones.
Your comments are very educational and appreciated. Any recommendations for the particular movement?

If you’re building from a plan then go with the recommended movement for said plans. If you will be designing your own then order the movement and clock face of your choice before hand.

Klockit has a mechanical movement for $104.99 (stock #13035) that would work in a Shaker style wall clock, comes with the hands but no face. So you’ll need to order that separately, they will punch a hole in the face for access to the winding mechanism so you don’t have to.

Great. Thanks.
The plans I have seen use a quartz movement and I need a mechanical movement. I am comfortable in designing a shaker case around the movement but was at a loss for the movement.

Klockit did have a link on how to select a movement. If you can't find it let me know and I will search it out.
Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans.

Thanks
I selected one. I will see if it works out and may be back to you.
Appreciate the offer.

This site has lots of choices. They picked up the line from Mason and Sullivan when they went out of business. Give them a call as they do carry many mechanical movements.
