Appreciate advice on options used with fence setting and support, when milling molding higher than 3″.
If the molding is in the form of an angled cove with a 11″ radius, about 5/8″ depth of cut at the bottom of the cove, how do you support the workpiece with the outfeed fence?
Do you cut the workpiece slightly larger than the cutter profile, so you have top and bottom support and then trim this away after molding, or do you install an auxiliary fence, supporting the work piece on the back face?

DJK is right make a custom fence. you can take a piece of 3/4 mdf and mount it your current fence. put the fence past the blade so the mdf is clears the blade. and SLOWLY crank the fence into the spinning blade until only the cutter amount that you need is exposed. this may sound nuts but i do this all the time and never had a problem. it will also provide you with less waste because you piece can not fall into the blade at the start/finish of your cut. oh yea make a custom feather board too. have fun!
cheers
