Shaper Noise
I have a Delta 3hp shaper. It has developed a a rattle. I’ve checked th belt tension and it seems right. I’ve shaken the machine under the top and haven’t found anything that wiggles. The shaper is mounted on a mobile base, and it does not wobble. A coin stays put on the top when the shaper is on.
Any suggestions? Please…

Bill,
This is hard to do at a distance. Presuming that the problem isn't as simple as a loose bolt or a part having come loose, the most likely cause is either a loose pulley or a bearing that is starting to go. A belt that is worn out, and possibly missing a chunk of its rubber, is also a possibility.
Checking the pulley and bearings will require you to take off the belts to get access to the set screws and also so you can spin the motor and arbor shafts freely. I would check for a loose pulley soon since a shifting pulley will severely damage both its bore and quite possibly the shaft it is mounted on. If a bearing is developing a problem you can continue to use the machine for awhile if it can't be repaired immediately.

Thanks for the prompt response! I was afraid you might say the bearing might need replacement. I'll check pulleys and belt first.
Thanks again for your suggestions.......
