Got the itch to give a stab at hand sharpening. Found a 50’s vintage rusty D8 5 Tpi Rip in the neighbors barn and figured that would be a good starting place. And I was right. Just a little reading and I was off. Had the file, blade file jointer, cheater 3X safety glasses and a saw vise. In 45 Minutes I had it jointed and filed, not bad for the first time. Gave it a test drive on a 2×4 pine and some 1 by hickory after knocking the majority of the light rust off, and though not as fast as a TS, I was impressed by how well and fast it cut. I’ve got three more rough saws to practice on before I tackle my newly acquired 10″ X 14tpi Lakeside Backsaw.

No micro photographs of the newly wood-hungry teeth? ;-)
Still trying to figure that one out. Mechanical skills and tools I can do, computer skills leave something to be desired.
Bruce,
Great attitude. I am going to do the same thing. I figure the same way you do, that saw sharpening can't be that hard. Heck, LN only charges $15 to sharpen on of their own. Anything that LN can do for $15 can't be that difficult. I will get a few files and give it a go, just as you did.

I fooled with sharpening, maybe without as much skill or commitment as you. It is interesting how quickly a common skill has almost completely disappeared from the landscape. Just try to get a steel tooth dado set sharpened, for example. Mostly I was amused by discovering that "to get ones nose bent out of joint" came from a badly jointed saws with a stray teeth sticking up.
