Hello,
I have a saw that I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it. It’s an older Craftsman (long C) 16″, 14 Points. Has a diamond mark and nothing else that I’ve not been able to ID. It has no set but binds up after about 1/4″, so I don’t think it’s intended to be a zero set saw. It’s been suggested that the blade may have been sanded, taking off any set.
So, I was thinking about sharpening it and see what it’s like. Looking at what’s left of the teeth they look filed straight across like a rip saw but they look pitched more like a crosscut saw.
So, is it a rip saw, a crosscut or something different?
Thanks
BuddyK

What would you like it to be? It is badly in need of sharpening. It would take a ton of work to change the PPI, but you can change the rake or add fleam as you wish. So, Crosscut or rip, whatever you want.
Appears that it was probably a rip saw. I would file it, add a bit of set and give it another try as a rip.
Sounds worth a try. Glad it's only 16"... that's a lot of teeth
John C2: "Fleam" is a new word to me. What does it mean?
