Anyone know of shave horse plans, preferably free, but, whatever would be considered one of the best.
Anyone know if there are plans for the one lie-nielsen sells?

Alan,
You could study the pictures of various shave horses and and incorporate the desirable features into your own version. This would also give you a chance to adjust the dimensions to your size.
I know that my nudging is of little immediate use - but might change how you go about it.
Best wishes,
Metod
I looked at several pictures and plans and used the parts that I liked. The dumbhead and footboard come off when the wedges are removed and the front and back legs unbolt so the whole thing can be put in the car (suv). I built it to start making Windsor chairs but found it very useful for other things. One of these days I'll get around to the chairs. That's a froe sticking in the space in front of the seat by the way. I take it out when I sit down. I only have one dumbhead down in the shop but for some reason my wife insists that there are two.

Just thought I'd show a couple of pics of a shaving horse I built last winter. It's a copy of one I used to built about 20 years ago but lost in the divorce. It was used mainly for shaving bows and spindles for Windsor chairs. I modified this one to make it more comfortable to sit on for long periods and added an attachment for shaving basket handles, etc., that are flexible.
A thing of beauty
This must be a first of some kind, losing a shaving horse in a divorce settlement. What a beautiful horse. This post is kinda old, I wonder if the OP built the one he was contemplating.
RE: A thing of beauty
No, I burned the old one rather than let it be sold with all my other stuff. I'll be building some Windsors come next Winter.
Kinda sad you had to do that. Good luck with the Windsor chairs.
Nice job on the horse. Now, of course, we'll epect to see pictures of new Windsor chairs. ;-)
