The 158 volume of Fine Home Building has a nice article on glues for outdoor use. PVA glues were discussed, but the author said nothing about its shelf life. Can anyone advise as to the shelf life problems with this type of glue ( both before and after it is opened). My work is generally interior, but assume the self lifes would be the same for both Type ! amd type 2 PVAs. Thanks

Hi Rod,
Talked with a tech person at Franklin International, (Titebond etc.) and he informed me that the original Titebond (interior) has a shelf life of 1 year and that Titebond II, the exterior version has an indefinite shelf life. He gave me some clues on how to read the numbers on the bottom of the gallon containers to determine when it was bottled. Off hand I cannot find my notes from a year or so ago. The liquid hide glue is definitely a throw away when it is a year old. I use about 3 gallons a year of the original and one of the exterior and one or two 160z. bottles of the hide glue. Hope this info helps.
