Any good rules of thumb for unopened can/opened can storage times for tung oil? Any helpful tips to preserve and extend this oil (decanting into exact-size jar or something)?

Bloxygen works great for Tung Oil. It is a spray can of inert gases which are heavier than oxygen. When closing up the Tung Oil to put it away for awhile, spray in some Bloxygen which will displace the oxygen in the can, screw on the lid and the Tung Oil has nothing to react with to make it gum up.

*Is it real tung oil? Or, is it a "Tung Oil Finish?"Real tung oil will say "pure" or "100%" on the container and real tung oil will last almost forever if it is tighly capped. Heck, it takes almost forever to dry when you put it on a project."Tung Oil Finishes" are either and oil/varnish product(Minwax Tung Oil Finish, Watco Danish Oil, Behr Tung Oil Finish) or a thinned varnish product(Formby's Tung Oil Finish). Most contain no real tung oil. These types of products will deteriorate over time and much more rapidly once they have been opened.
