I’m a little confused about how to use shellac as a wood sealer.Do I apply the deluted shellac before I stain or after. How much do I cut the shellac when using this method.Any help with this procedure is greatly appriciated. The table that I’m finishing is maple.I plan on using a penitrating stain(cherry).
thanks,
Rick

How many coats of shellac are needed to seal the wood?
*Shellac is a great sealer for tables and case goods,it can be somewhat problematic on carved surfaces but not on a table.Apply the shellac AFTER the stain has dried completely.I usually reduce a 3lb. cut 50%. Lightlysand with 220 and you should be good to go.
*I'm having face frame kitchen cabinets custom built by a local craftsman. He is planning on using Amerock decorative hinges and Accuride full extension drawer slides. What kind of quality is this hardware? We just got rid of cabinets(Siematic/ frameless) that were falling off their hinges. I want durable, long-lasting hardware. Any advice would be appreciated.
*Lucy, you might post this to the main board since many may not check here under a topic about shellac.Good luck.
