Generally speaking, alcohols don't dissolve most plastics. The best way to answer your question is to rub alcohol on your container with a cotton swab. If the cotton fibers stick to the plastic, don't use it.
BTW don't store the shellac mixture in a closed plastic container. The alcohol will slowly diffuse through the plastic. This is true for mineral spirits based solutions, too.
Glass and stainess steel work well. I keep shellac in old Grolsch beer bottles in various grades.

Peanut butter jars are my favorites! Go for it. If you have to store it for more than a few days, probably a good idea to put it in a metal or glass container.
