I need to know if I can remove Johnson’s Paste Wax, and use shellac on a red cedar lid on a chest that has 2 coats of Tung Oil, 30 days old. I’m looking for a hard surface.

Sheepman,
Wax can be removed by washing with mineral spirits and drying behind it with paper towels or rags. Be sure and dispose of these rags properly.
Afterwards you can give it a light wash with water and a grease cutting soap detergent like Dawn. The same rules apple to drying as you go.
If you want to be sure the wax is completely removed, use a piece of 600 or 800 grit sandpaper very lightly on an inconspicuous area. If there is any wax left it will quickly show on the paper. When your happy with your results you can apply the shellac.

Thanks for taking time to answer my question, and the good information you gave me. I plan to start the job tomorrow.
