Anyone heard of a Shelton plane? The one I have is marked No.9 and is about the size of a Stanley No.4 smoother. I have it cleaned up and it doesn’t work too bad, just don’t know anything about the brand.

I've heard of Shelton Planes but I don't believe they have much collectible or usable value. I think they were sold at Sears & Roebuck back in the day...here's a link.

"I have it cleaned up and it doesn't work too bad...." I have one too, picked up in an auction lot real cheap. If they work, who cares if they're collectible?? A Stanley and a Bedrock also grace my cabinet shelf, but if the Shelton will do it's job, I'll use it. ;-)
i have a shelton no 14, yard sale for 2 bucks, cleaned it up, sharpened and tuned it, use it almost everyday installing doors and in my shop
no complaints here, its agood servicable tool, guys who buy old tools for their mantlepiece should be framed themselves
Thanks to all for the information. Especially for the link to the shelton patent information. My Shelton does not however look like the ones in the patent. It resembles a No.4 Stanley only difference that I can see is the name Shelton on the body and on the lever cap.
If your Shelton looks like a Stanley No 4 and not like the picture of the link, you have a fine plane that will perform well.
Yep, that's what it looks like, a No. 4 Stanley and now that it is tuned up and trued up, it seems to work quite nicely. Of course, I am new to hand planes, that's why I was asking opinions, turns out, I didn't choose to poorly then.
Thanks for the advice and the info.
Ted
