I need some info on shipping 12 Ln. Ft. of custom cherry cabinets to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. I did a search on google with no luck. I can get the cabinets to either N.Y or Miami easily, but I hit a sea block when it comes to freighters.
I will fly in to install, but everything must be coordinated perfectly.
I thank you in advance for any info.
George
P.S…Air freight is also an option.

I'd talk to one of the large household moving companies, they all have international divisions that handle this type of work routinely and you probably won't have to crate the pieces for shipping.

I considered that John, but the costs are too high. I have a friend that owns a trucking company, he can accomadate me up to any major port on the East coast, even let me use his container to ship by boat and return it.
It's starting to sound like more hassle I'm willing to put up with for a mini vacation. The customer wants me to handle all aspects of the job, so I'm trying to figure out the costs before I quote a price.GO CUBS!!!
If you go by freight, Forward Air is by far the most reasonable.. Let's put it this way.. I made a huge settle for a doctor in NY ABF charged $425 to ship.. Forward Air charged $75 (this is from Indy to NY) now with forward air, you do need to pick it up at the terminal.. they do a very nice job..

If you can't find a good air freight company, then you may have to go with a freight forwarder. My company has shipped internationally from time to time, and it can get expensive and a hassle. Is the customer paying for the freight? If so, maybe you can send Fed-X or UPS, also if you look on the Web, Conrad (Air freight) used to be pretty reasonable. Air may be the cheapest overall, since almost everything else goes by ship, which will most likely require a container. Sorry there is no easy fix.
Thank you Pick, like Rob mentioned above, I'm starting to think air freight is the way to go. I'll be paying for the transport, the customer just wants to write a check and get it done. The question is how big a check is he willing to write, I'll know soon.

Since your customer lives on an island they already know that everything costs more due to shipping charges. That is the price they pay to live in paradise. They are probable not to worried about the extra cost of shipping as they are already getting custom cabinets installed by the maker.
Check with DHL. They are shipping the Tsunami Hope Chest from Australia to the States. The Australian WWer who made it uses them regularly. Here's the USA part of their web site:
