Does anyone know where I could find simple plans for a shoe/boot storage bench and cubby shelf with hooks for a mudroom? I see these type of bench/ shelf combinations at stores, but they seem cheap.

Just pile the shoes on the floor and heap the jackets in a second floor spot. That's what my kids do...
The laughs I get from these forums is as good as the info I get. This is just too funny.
If you can see one, you can build one -- you don't need no stinkin' plans! If you know enough to recognize what makes the ones you see "cheap", you know enough to remedy the issue in your own project, and you'll learn a lot in the process of designing your own.

Just made a shoe changing bench for a walk in closet... probably not the same as a mud room shoe bench; however, it is close. The plan is my own, and it has hand cut through dovetails holding the bits together.
Have attached pictures, perhaps it will give you some ideas.
That's a beautiful bench, Moksha! I can only hope to reach your level of craftsmanship one day!
It doesn't matter what you design and build, teh kids will still heap stuff on the floor within two weeks of instillation after they fill the shelves, hooks and every other space with other junk. I soeak form experience. I put in a large set of cubby hole shelves, coat hooks and benches for the kids a couple of years ago. When they come home from school, there book bags and coats go right on the floor because there is not an inch of space to hang a coat , set books or otherwise put anything. I am so waiting for them to leave home and throw stuff out behind them. Whatever you build, make sure the hooks are strong and the shelves attached to the wall well because they will have 3 times as much stuff on them as you think they will.Dan Carroll

If it is a mud room accessory, you may want to incorporate a drip pan into the design. JL
