I am in the process of building a shooting board(s). If I have a 45d board to shoot miters how do I make sure all the boards are the same length? I know I will only be taking off a very small amount but 45d miters have caused me great grief in the past and I do not want to add to it.
Thank you

Make the shooting board long enough to put a stop at the other end.

Hi Bonka,
This is really a two-part question of marking and cutting, as well as of shooting.
When you layout the boards for the first cut, use anything you like. I use a pencil. Cut the board close to that line, but not so as to cut on the very line. Use the shooting board--and the assumption is that the shooting board is accurate--to pare the last bit off to the line.
Measure out, but use a marking knife for the second line. Make sure the marking knife cuts in enough to see it. Again, cut close to the line. Pare it away using the shooting board right to the marked line.
As long as you are accurate with marking and do not go over the second marked miter, the boards will be accurate.
Take care, Mike
