I am considering building a vacuum press. I would like to be able to veneer fairly large items…like table tops for desks, etc. Where can I find some comprehensive plans to put this together. The one David Marks uses on Woodworks looks like a shop build press. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a good place to get the things needed to start in vac pressing.
It was mentioned in FWW a couple of years ago. I got the stuff I needed to start up years ago thru them. I got the vac pump from a used/trade/new tool shop. It was an old vac pump used to milk cows. It really works good with automatic cutin/out switch and everything. It is a bit on the large side tho. about as big as a 2hp air compressor but it works great. All the other stuff I got thru this company. It's pretty cool because it gives you the capibilty to make clamps and presses limited only to your imagination. I bought there video. The production was very 3rd rate but the ideas I got from seeing what was capable in the vacuum world made it worht the price.

I bought only the video, some closed cell foam(100'; see the video for uses), some quick connect fittings and a 5' x 5' vac bag. I don't use it all the time, but on some things it's the only way to go. I'm glad I got into it!

used pumps can be found at some graphics firms as they were used for making prints and now the methods are digital and the companys are literly dumping them. I got 2 for free in Toronto!!
