Does anyone know of a good source for plans for building my own planes from hardwood? Google was of little help.

I seem to recall that there are a couple of books on the subject, I know that David Finck wrote one called "Making and Mastering Wood Planes" and that FWW has run articles in the past. There are also descriptions in one or two of James Krenov's books. If you do go this way Ron Hock at Ft. Bragg in Ca can supply the blades for you. There's also a free plan set with making instructions at Woodworkers Workshop.

Finewoodworking Archives has 3 or 4 articles on building planes. I have built four and it is fun and interesting. I bought my irons from LN first then built the planes to fit.
Frank,
Try some of the links on the following web site. There are several links to sites about making your own planes, plus lots of other info regarding using, tuning, using etc handplanes.

Try the book "Wooden Planes and How to Make Them" by David Perch and Robert Lee. The publisher is Algrove. I think I purchased my copy from Lee Valley and it wasn't all that expensive.
