So, after repairing an irritating “ding” on my SYP workbench (yes, I know, it’s a workbench, it’s supposed to get banged up – but this was deep, obnoxious, more than a “ding,” and reminded me too much of my stupidity,) I put another coat of finish on the repair and surrounding area.
If memory serves me correctly the original finish was a urethane oil based varnish, mineral spirits and BLO in a 1:1:1 ratio. The repair patch is also SYP. I wiped on a fairly thin coat of the same recipe about 24 hours ago and, well, it still hasn’t dried. This in a climate controlled shop.
Thoughts? It MAY be that my BLO is pretty (very) old? I last used it maybe a couple of years ago. I’m guessing I can strip off the tacky finish with MS and try again.
Any and all comments welcomed.

Could be a resinous area of the pine.
Be patient.
A few years ago I finished a small cabinet with the 1:1:1 mixture you described. It took 2 or 3 days to become dry to the touch and almost 2 weeks before it felt 100% dry without a hint of stickiness.
I wouldn't do anything drastic until more time has passed.

My approach as well.
If it's too old, it could be the BLO.
Linseed oil takes a while to dry and must be put on in thin coats.
For future reference (won't help you now), add some japan drier according to directions and the mix will dry and be ready to recoat over night.
Thank you all. I didn’t recall a long drying time when I first used the finish a few years ago. The first coat on the repair dried within 48 hours. I sanded the entire top today and wiped on a second thin coat on the entire top this morning. Dumped the old BLO and mixed up another batch with fresh oil. We’ll see what happens. I suspect it may still take overnight. Bilyo, I’ve never used Japan dryer. I’ll check that out. Thanks again.
