I just bought a Grizzly 10 inch cabinet saw and like it a lot. One problem I find with it though has to do with the Shop Fox fence. The fence itself works great, is heavy duty and accurate. But the magnifier supplied with it (to magnify the markings on the self-stick tape on the fence bar) is located too far away from the tape. It makes it so that any sightline varying even a little bit from directly down makes the line appear off the mark.
In other words, unless I’ve positioned myself directly over the magnifying lens, my reading of the tape marking can be off by as much as a sixteenth of any inch.
My previous saw had a Biesmeyer fence, and there was no magnifier on it. Plus, the plexiglass window was located just a fraction above the tape, so readings were accurate even without having to stand directly over the lens.
Other than stapling a plumb bob to my forehead in order to align myself perfectly with the magnifier on the Shop Fox fence, any suggestions? I tried to look up the company that makes the fence to see if they have other (non-magnifying) lenses to fit this unit, but had no luck. At this point I’m thinking of making my own…

"Other than stapling a plumb bob to my forehead in order to align myself perfectly with the magnifier ...." Too funny!
Woodstock International would be (probably) the best place to call to get info about parts:

FG,
Thanks for that link. I'll email their sales department to see what they are able to tell me about fence parts. In the end, I suspect I'll wind up making something myself though...
At least I won't have to use that staple gun anymore.
Thanks again, Zolton

Good idea except use very short staples or even duct tape! Just kidding!
