Hi Brian,
There are a number of ways to make a wooden hinges and wealth of information in past issues of FWW. Depending on the design of the box there are several methods for making wooden box hinges.
A knuckle hinge first comes to mind, which is essentially a finger joint which pivots on a brass rod. Two good articles that cover knuckle joints can be found in:
FWW # 80- Routing a Rule Joint by Mac Campbell
FWW#104- Drop Leaf Breakfast Table by Robert Treanor
Other articles that deal directly with hinges for boxes:
FWW#52 -Making Room Screens – A Wooden Hinge for Every Purpose by Steven Mackintosh
FWW# 87 –Traditional Swiss Boxes –Top Hinge on Wooden Pins by Gottlieb Brandli
If you do not have access to these back issues you may find some of them as a downloadable PDF file on this website.
Let me know if this was enough of a point in the right direction.
Good Luck,
Darrell
Thanks Darrell! You guys are awesome. I'm a bit new to Woodworking and this site so will try to research a little better before bugging you guys.
Thanks again, Brian
