Well, I guess they are never “complete” but I now have electric and have moved everything but the lathe in as I need to purchase a stand for the Rikon Mini Lathe. Actually was ready at the beginning of September, but we spent a lot of time back in Cincinnati with my wife’s mother, who passed away last Thursday. She lived to be 92, I hope to live as long and to be as mean as she was at that age!. I have had little success trying one of the photo programs, so I will attach photos and keep trying. The outside of the shop can be seen in a previous Project post. Came together as planned, the a/c-heat unit works well, it took about 10 minutes to bring the shop down to 73 and it was 98 outside. Plenty of electric outlets, I do have to lengthen the cord of my table saw. The bench was built a couple of years ago and took 3 of us to move it in. The tool cabinet was built when I was in my basement shop in Ohio and I can’t give that up, everything is right there. I do have some plans to build some simple cabinets for storage on the walls, I want to keep as much as I can off the floor. All in all, no regrets, I think this will work out just fine. Let me know if you have any questions. — Rick, Jackson, TN

Rick,
Isn't there a law against making people jealous? Hey, congratulations! Looks great. I can only imagine that you will have good times in there and create many good memories.

Nick,
Nice work and clean lines in your workshop. Good work. For your windows, you might keep an eye out at your local Lowes for wide blinds at pennies on the dollar. Keeping out the heat/cold and prying eyes make your workspace a little more comfortable when you're there and when you're not.
I have a question about your wall mounted air/heat unit.
I'm working on an outside building with a 17,000 BTU air/heat unit. The "guts" of the Whirlpool unit slide out of the outside steel case. I was wondering how you mounted your unit and if you allowed any room for vibration/sound dampening to make it run as quiet as possible?
Bill
Thanks Bill. I have shades on the east and west windows to block the morning and afternoon sun. I have an acre lot and to the north is a privacy fence and a cotton field as well as a field in back. My neighbors are on the south side, no wionodws there. So as far as "eyes" they would have to come thru the gates in front. As to your question, this is a LG unit and it mounts the same way you describe, the guts slide in and out. I did nothing special there, framed around the outside dimension, used the foam that was supplied, then latex caulk. The unit is extremely quiet, no vibration at all.
That's a great layout! Congratulations. But - where is the bed? You should be living out there.

DANG! If I had that I'd build a outhouse and add a addition for a kitchen and LIVE THERE!
Nice shop! Remember safe tablesaw practices... if you jam a piece it looks like it could rocket through that nice window lined up with the saw.
Thanks Griz, and will do, always safe in the shop

What was the size of building ?
Hi HS, thanks for pointing that out, I forgot to add it. The inside dimensions are 16' x 20' with 9 foot ceilings. Rick
16' x 20' with 9 foot ceilings. I sure hope the rafters are thick.. If you are 7 foot tall.. that leave about.. Seven fron Nine is about... Lookin' in my old math book.. OK... alot of space to store wood!
I was curious as to what's the total building going to cost you?
Thanks,
Bill
Looks great! I dream of an out-building at our next piece of property. For now my shop is in the basement. The best thing about that is the security. Unfortunately, that is a concern these days. What steps have you taken in that arena?
I certainly can relate to your user name Joe..fortunately, I live in an area where security is not of a big concern. That porch light you may be able to see is on a automatic light sensitve switch, I do have a dead bolt lock, and a door lock but that's it. The gate leading to the back is locked as well. There is privacy fence down both sides of the acre lot, the previous owner put that up and I for the life of me don't know why as there is nothing but cotton in the back and corn in the field on the north property line, I trust the guy next door, so that isn't an issue. I suppose any one could break in at any time no matter what security is in place. The bigger tools would have to be carried over the top of the fence, or through it if the broke it down, and of course the small stuff could be carried out. I had the same thought when my stuff was in the garage, anyone could have broken the windows, climbed in, open the door, and loaded up. So a few locks, and a good insurance policy is what security I have here.
Ther sure seems to be alot of worry about others security, it has always been my opion thoses are the people to watch out for.

Locks will only keep honest people out, anyway. They also may help in settling an insurance claim....The unspoken word is capital. We can invest it or we can squander it. -Mark Twain...

I'm officially putting you in charge of security for my house and shop. To paraphrase a Blues Brothers quote, "Use of unnecessary force in apprehending the workshop robbers...has been approved."

Will,
I keep a gorilla in my shop. The price of bananas in winter is killing me though.
