Shop-Vac 6.25 HP $59.95 Lowes Today Only
Lowes has the Shop-Vac 18 gal. 6.25 HP with detachable blower for $59.95 as one of their day after TG specials. It’s today only as I found out last year with a flyer I recieved on Sat. morning. Ha..
If anyone is shopping for that size vac at an excellent price, this is a great buy for today. I have two and can attest to their reliability. Shop-Vac isn’t Fein, but they still s-ck at a much lower price. Grin<>

6.25 HP!!!!! LOL!!!!!!
But seriously, I really hate these deceptive Peak HP ratings. They do not mean a thing.
must be a 220 3ph vac ;)
Bill,
I use the Craftsman version of this vac with my pc wall sander. I have no clue what the actual hp is, but it is the best working vac for that sander. I've tried the pc made for the sander and an expensive fein. They don't come close. It is one loud s.o.b. though. The one disadvantage is the lid has to come off to changeclean the filter.
No, horse-power rating doesn't mean a thing on shop vacs. The vac is pulling about 180 cfm. A D/C system with 1 HP will pull about 650 cfm. Doesn't add up, huh.
Now of course if I had mentioned the Shop Vac model 925-42-10 was on sale, everyone would have known exactly which of the 10 or 12 vacuums Shop Vac makes I was reffering too. Correct...
I'll try to be more careful with the wording in the future. ha..ha.. I'd better get back to the shop to feed all those hoss's down there. Lets see, I got 4 Shop Vacs for a total of 18 horses. Hmmm... I might just hook them all up about mid-nite and pull the beer wagon around the neighborhood.
Have a wonderful evening everyone..Grin<>

Sarge,
I thought I had a great deal last year when I paid $99 for the same vac. Thanks
BG
The regular price here in Atlanta is $99. Are you sure we're not related!? Ha.. Everytime I think I gt a deal and buy, the next day it gets better.. he..

Sounds like a great deal, wish I had some $$! BTW, I thought I got sucks taken off the censor list. Whaaaa?!

Well, I picked one of these up today. If it wasn't on sale for $60 I'd be returning it. At the regular price the craftsman (Ridgid) is a much, much better vac. This one is a lot quieter though, but that's a poor substitute for usefulness.
Also picked up one of the new Delta Shop Master 8 inch disc1 inch belt sanders. Lowes has em for $99, but I got the display sander which has been out about a week for another 10% off. For the price, this is neat little sander.

From what you posted, is the Ridgid and Craftsman both made by Emerson. If that is the case, I wasn't aware. I thought Emerson and Sears had broken ties.
BTW, let me know how the blower works. I have two 12 gallon Shop Vacs and they are relatively quiet. I put a muffler on the Ridgid and it settled down too. The two SV 6 gallons are the whisper series and very quiet.
Enjoy your TG tool specials..

Sarge,
I've heard a number of different accounts of what happened between Sears and Emerson, but all ties were not cut. With Sears new 009 in front of all model numbers for tools now, it will be harder to tell anymore also.

Thanks on the input, Don. I lost track of Craftsman for the last 10 or 12 yrs. as my nearest Sears is inside a mall. I don't do malls. Ha...
If Dave6821 is out there, he probaly knows as he worked for them quite a while.
Have a good one..

Jamie
You may have got it taken off. I stay behind on current information. Ha.. Remember, I just got here from the dark ages.
Do you have any type of D/C system? If you need something small and mobile the little Delta or Jet that rolls around with about 650 cfm might fit your needs. If you need something for shop clean up also, a shop type vacuum would be the better compromise.
Evening maam..

Yep, sucks has been legal for awhile.
I have an ancient Craftsman 16 gal. indoor/outdoor vac that does just fine for my jointer and belt/disc sander, sort-of ok for the bandsaw, extreme overkill for the router and marginal for the contractor's saw. Am holding out for that new Jet with the canister filter, so it'll be awhile before I get an actual DC.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I know that when I was refinishing the floor that the shopvac was good for a couple of runs before the filter needed cleaning. I now wonder if one of those vortexing lids for a 5 gallon can to make it a 2-stage might be a good investment. Put some water in the bottom of the 5 gal to keep the dust in place, plus you can empty it much easier than the shop vac, and you can put the shop vac another 20 ft away for less noise. ;-)
Jamie
I had an old Craftsman I bought in the early 70's. I gave it to my BIL as he does quite a bit for me from his machine shop. It's still running like a champ. I think it's bullet-proof.
That new Jet is nice. Just picked up American WW new Tool Review to-nite and saw it. If you back off for a one-stage, the Penn State is a bargain. 16 oz. felt bags, triple stitched and over-size inlets which increase cfm. I don't think you're gonna get any one stage without the cannister under 20 microns though. Like HP rating on shop vacs, I believe the manufacturers stretch the claims a little. Well. a lot. ha...ha...
Have a good evening and give my best to the single, independent...........well, you know. Grin<>

Hi Sarge, yeah I think mine was made before the "tank" period ended! It's a bit of a dinosaur, but it works fer sure. I picked up an extra hose, along with the adapter, recently, and discovered that the extra adapter in the kit fits my Grizzly bandsaw port perfectly, very convenient.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Jamie
The adapters come in awful handy. I don't know if you have a source for that sort of thing or not. Does WW supply or whatever it's called have those type items? If not you can find about every adapter, pipe fitting, etc, at http://www.highlandhardware.com
Don't know if they have them on-line, but if you call the toll-free, they will send a catalog. They have catered to WW since the mid -seventies...
Evening, craftslady of the forest..

Doc
Crooooooaaakkk...Crooooooaaakkk
OK there Doc, my name is Buster Brown and I live in a shop...ahhhhh shoe.. he...
You're just jealous of my southern charm. Ha.. Yeah, right..
BTW, I built a new table for the scroll saw. I made it 1/2" wider and longer than the DW 20" so I could say mine's bigger than yours. ha..ha.. You better get to work on that table or you won't hear the end of it. You might try to place a cum-a-long on each side and stretch it 3/4" so you'll have the upper hand. grin<>
Now I have to get busy with yard sales and local advertisers. Got to add to my circular saw collection so I can have more than you do. Nah, at 55 that may be im-possible. Not enough years left in my life-time to pull that one off.. ha....
Have a good evening, buddy.....
sarge..jt
LOL........you better start buying circular saws now if you want to beat me there Bucko..<G>.... hey glad your updating your scroll saw..now how about using it on some projects????
ToolDoc
Doc
What do you think I made the table with. Cut out the opening with the scroll-saw. I took a piece of 3/4" MDF and cut an opening exact same size as my stock table in the center. Rounded the outside with B/S the shape of the stock one. Laminated the top with 1/8" phenolic and the sides and bottom with regular formica (or whatever they call it now, what do they call it now?). I lost 1/8" of cut height, but gained about 120 sq. inches of table surface.
Now you get a picture of what I been busy with lately. Got two WW projects working and a ton of modifications and improvements to equipment. Got a new Penn State one stage DC coming. I'm building a first stage separator to catch larger debri and chips b-4 it hits the impellor. Figured out how to add a K&N pleated high efficiency filter to the out-bound hose going out of the separator into the inlet of the main DC. Should drop most sawdust into the separator b-4 it travels through the impellor and gets filtered again with the oversize felt bags on that Penn State. Using it as a mobile one machine at a time, should filter as well as the two stage cyclone. The main difference is about $450 or better less
Off to dreamy world..have a good evening Doc.
sarge..jt
SARGE: You just have the coolest tools and ideas..havent gotten to play in the shop the last few days as I have friends staying over for hunting season,IM heading to bed also the early am comes quick....
Formica what do they call it now?? hmm your showing your age..LOL its laminate but I still say formica which is really a trade name for laminate...

I have had my first shop vac ( sears ) for 15 years and it is now permanently hooked up to my table saw by itself and still works well. The problem with sears/ craftsman stuff is that it is made up of 95 % soft plastic ! I hate that ! The wheels stop rolling and then constantly fall out until you throw them away or at the nearest wall ( after you have tried 20 times to secure them ). Then the cheap inadequeate plastic screw thing that holds the filter on breaks off so you get the thickest screw and washer you have to secure that, and then have to get the screwgun every time you need to clean the filter.
My wife bought a new (craftsman) shop vac for me 2 years ago which works fine but it still has the cheap soft plastic parts that inevitabily fail ( I love her anyway ). Those wheels have already begun to freeze up and stick.

You could eliminate the wheel problem by sitting it on a ply base and run 3 lag screws through the bottom. Put rolling ind. caster under the ply. Problem is good casters will add up to about $20 for more.
The old Craftsman FG and I have had a metal bolt coming up through the center of the filter with a wing-nut. I guess they just don't build them like they used to in the golden years. Ha. Still got my first Daisy Red Ryder BB gun I pis-ed off my first dinosaur with. That's where thy got the idea in the movie Forrest Gump. "Run Forrest, Run"..he.....
Time to hush..take care.
