I need to replace my circa 1991 shop vac and am looking for recommendations. I already have a Festool and love it, so I’m looking for something at a lower price point. My original was 16 gallons, but in evaluating my use of it I feel a smaller unit would work just fine. any thoughts?

Shop vacs
My 10 Gal Shop-Vac from Lowes is significantly quieter than my 16 gal Ridgid even with a "silencer" on the exhaust and the Shop-Vac takes a disposable filter bag but it's not in the Festool db range.

Is it the shop vac brand? A quick look at the Lowe's website shows no 10 gal models. I see 6, 12, 14, 16, 20 gallon models.
Yes, it's Shop-Vac brand. Lowes has the worst website of any national retailer. I bought it ~4years ago so it's possible it's no longer available.

My luck with the ShopVac from Lowe's is that it lasted just under a year with moderate use cleaning apartments. Might have been a fluke but I've stayed away from that brand since. P:resently have a Wap ($500) amd a Porter Cable (probably about $350). They are OK and both are very quiet.

I just read some reviews of Shop Vac brand vacs. Just horrible. Motors like to smoke and die. However, Rigid gets really good reviews. I will probably go that direction.
Shop Vac
I bought a 16 gallon shop vac at lowes on black Friday for $30. I thought it was a good deal until I brought it home and noticed the 1 1/4" hose it came with. It went back. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would put a hose smaller than the hoovers on a shop vac. So it's back to my old Craftsman 6 gal that requires double hearing protection when using it.
