I’m renovating a television cabinet (entertainment center) into an clothing armoire (long story, don’t ask). I’m planning to put four drawers in the large compartment where the television currently sits. Since the compartment is rather deep (about 56 cm or 22″), my drawers will also be that deep. I have some roller drawer guides, but they’re only 45 cm (18″) long, and am wondering if using them will cause problems. I don’t anticipate needing to pull the drawers out all the way to get to what they hold (sweaters or whatever), so I don’t think that will be an issue, but if I go this route, should I mount the guides at the front of the cabinet, the rear, or middle? –Or does it even matter?
Thanks for any pointers.

I would mount the slides at the front of the cabinet. If a Euro cabinet (2mm back from edge of gable) .If face frame with inset doors just behind face frame. A lot of home centres have drawers you can look at.The further back you set the slide the less the drawer pulls out ,your slides are probably only 3/4 extension already.
Why force yourself to use those short slides? Practically every manufacturer makes 22" slides, in most every style -- side, undermount, full-extension, 3/4-extension, and hidden.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.
As for "why use the shorter slides to begin with" as questioned by a few of you, it's er, well, because I had some left over from an earlier project and thought I'd use them. Also, here in Japan it's not as easy to find slides outside of a few generic sizes. But obviously, going to the bigger size would be the optimum solution if they're available. I'll take a look around a bit more and rethink.
Thanks again.

If these are typical blum-type slides, you could have a bit of a problem because the drawer has to tilt down in order to engage the box rails to the carcass rails. Depending on drawer height relative to opening height, you could have problems if the slides are aligned to the front and to the rear.
First pick, dump the old slides and replace with full extension slides (about $50 for 4 sets)
second pick set to the front as the "travel" is the same but you might have a problem installing the drawers as the drawer box has to be tilted to install.
