PlaneI need a large shoulder plane and plan to purchase either the Clifton, Veritas or Lie-nielsen. I would like to hear from people who have experience using these planes and which plane you would recommend.
Thanks for any opinions offered.

I own the Veritas Medium Shoulder plane, I think it's great, but I have nothing to compare it to. I have large hands and it fits me just fine. It has that adjustable knob at the back that makes it very comfortable. I find myself using it in lots of situations, not just tenons...

I've had the Lie-Neilsen 73 for about 2 yrs. Used it to make a workbench and other projects.
Very solid and stable plane.
I have a Record 073 (which the Lie-Nielsen is a remake of) and it's my workhorse.
The mass and length provide the accuracy you need. I got a new Lie-Nielsen blade (thicker and heavier A2 steel) for it, and I've also drilled and tapped the sides for 4 setscrews like the Veritas planes have. I feel this provides the absolute best shoulder plane with all the features worth having.
The small bullnose planes (I have a Record 077A) are also excellent to have as a partner to the big boy.
I'd consider the medium Veritas for cleaning bottoms of dados and smaller work, but in my opinion the LN is the way to go.
The older I get, the better I was....
Thats a great idea Papanick. It will take care of the only concern I had with the LN.
Thanks much.
