Has anyone tried using a silicone cloth, like what’s used for firearms, in place of oil or wax for rust prevention on planes and chisels? I know Lie Nielsen and some others sell silicone bags for planes but I wasn’t sure if wiping it down with the cloth would provide adequate protection. Of course I thought of this today after I spent all of last night cleaning up and putting a coat of wax on all my planes. Figured I’d see if anyone has any experience with this or has tried it before I strip the wax off of one to test it out

It might prevent rust, but absolutely will transfer to your wood - and finishing will become a nightmare.
Absolutely, silicone is one of the leading causes of fisheye in finishes and I don't let anywhere near my shop if I can help it.
