Hi everyone and thanks as always for the fabulous answers in the past.
I have been using paste wax(shoe polish actually) to reduce friction on my jointer.Problem is that the wax eventually rubs off.I really take care of my machines. They are my babies.Does anyone have any experience using these silicone formulations(like Slipit sold by Grizzly) to reduce machine table wear?Do they stay on longer than wax?And not rub off onto the wood?Excuse the dangling modifier.
Also I have noticed the steel threads on my oft-used Jorgensen clamps wearing down to threadbare. This is because of the female threads(the casting) are cast iron.I wonder if those silicone sprays would help in this application. As you know clamps ain’t exactly cheap either.I am going to buy these products and check them out anyway. They are not that expensive.I was just wondering what others’ experience with them might be.Thanks tons in advance.Roland.

Go with Johnson's Paste Floor Wax for the Jointer and use White Lithium Grease, (common name: White Grease), on the clamps. The Johnson's will stay on for 4-6 months and is simple to reapply. One can should last about 50 years. The grease is available at automotive parts stores.

Steve, I bought some lithium grease for my Jet. Noticed while I was at the auto parts store that they also sell white grease in a spray can. I didn't buy it, because I wasn't sure if anything in the carrier for the spray might be bad for the application. Do you know anything about that stuff?
The amount of grease in the can I bought will take me well into my next lifetime!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi Jamie, no don't buy the junk in the spray can.. It is diluted to make it come out in through the straw that they give you with it. Yes it works in a pinch but it won't hold up. You bought the right stuff and yes.. You probably have a lifetime supply. However, if you ever find a need for a thinner version, just mix it 50/50 with 30w non detergentl motor oil. It works great as a general purpose lubricant. Steve - in Northern California
Keep silicone libricants away from wood. They will cause finishing problems.
Like Fisheye.
Especially for jointer/planer beds.
