4x12s are rare due to depleted old growth, so I plan to sister 2x 2x12s to appear as a 4×12. I’ve searched the google complete but have not found a way to make the two appear as one. Has anyone ever tried this?

Sorry. When I saw the post title, I thought you were trying to fix your sisters up.
I was wondering about your sisters, too.
If you glue two boards together you will still have the visible glue line. You don't describe your application, so there's way to know if that's an issue. Also two 2-by's combined will result in 3" thickness, not 4".
If your goal is to make a 4" thick beam, then using a core covered with planks with the corners mitered is one way.
@jfsksa is on point here.
Even if I needed to make it 3", if I need the seam to disappear, I'd go with this suggestion of a core covered by planks.
Is the end use decorative or structural... Do your sisters need ummmmmm... hardwood?
I see what you did there.

Someone had to go there.
Beating it to death only makes it funnier. The low hanging fruit is there to put out an eye.
Jesh. Here we go...
