Hi
fairly new to sketchup and have been experimenting with the matched photo option.
When I import a jpeg using matched photo option I end up with what looks like the vanishing points in a white field covering half of the image, is this correct or is it to do with my SU settings?
Thanks
John

John, the link below (this site's Design, Click, Build Blog, an Archive item) shows the use of Photo Match

Thanks Tim
I have been using your link and it's been very helpful, I managed to finally get rid of the vanishing points(not totally sure how which may make it difficult to repeat:).
The other challenge I have is when I use the orbit tool to remove the original image, the resulting drawings are somewhat distorted, any ideas?

John, the "vanishing points" are used when setting up the PhotoMatch so you can set SketchUp's angle and point of view to match that in the original photo. You can turn them off by clicking Done in the PhotoMatch dialog box.
Orbiting the camera doesn't really get rid of the image. It's just that the image only works from that single view point. If the geometry in your model is all confused when you orbit, you haven't been drawing the geometry in the right places. Watch the inferencing cues as you are drawing. You might turn on Color by Axis to aid you in getting lines drawn in the proper directions. This is found under the Edit tab in the Styles dialog box. Click on the wireframe cube and change the drop down menu at the bottom to By Axis.

Thanks Dave
Might be time to get the pencil and paper out a bit more to sketchup then I first thought.....

John,
Don't give up. Yes, there's a lot to SketchUp but it's not that difficult to learn.

Check out this site: http://www.aidanchopra.com/
There is a book, "SketchUp for Dummies", and this is the link for all the video tutorials in the book; and it's free.
If you really want to get serious in sketchup, I would highly recommend that you get the above book. It is easy to follow along, and will raise your drawing ability quickly.
Thanks for that, I checked a couple of the tutorials very good indeed. Will hunt out the book, and hopefully keep progressing forward.

John, I found my copy at barnes and noble in the computer software/program manuals. -If you didn't learn something new today, you're not looking hard enough!
