Would any one who has a Skil Biscuit Joiner, 1605 I think, please tell me if it is a resonably good tool?
I am not looking for a complex tool with odd angle miter features. I want to know if it is rather well made and if it cuts well with bottom and flat fence (180 degree no angle) “registration”. That is, flushing against the bottom or against the fence flat without angle.
It would be used as an adjunct to my Dewalt.
With just one joiner I have to plan well in advance if I want two biscuits for the same joints in various places using fence registration. Say if you have forgotton about one side of a few joints after cutter the rest you have to arrive at the same spacing again with a lot of fussing around. It is sometimes impossible to measure from the opposite face.
Also the Ryobi?

I suddenly realize that I can use a spacer, about 3/8 inch thick, to space the two cuts about 1/4 inches apart even when I use flat fence registration. I have always used a spacer for bottom registration.
The Dewalt fence has two holes already bored, although, unfortunately, they are not threaded.
I think I can just use two bolts attached to and thru the spacer and just slip on and take off the spacer.
I have the Ryobi and find it very good. Since I'm not as advanced in carpentry I have not measured anything to see if it is perfect, but from what I can tell from a finish product it is good. I like the D grip and the dust collection is good. It has stood up perfectly for 2 years now and has had no repairs
I have had the Skill for about 6 years and it has served well. If I were to purchase another I would by the PC but the Skill does what I ask of it!

Give porter-cable a look. I realize the price is much higher and the features are more extensive but more is always better. You do not have to use the features or you can. I saved up the extra and bought the Porter over a Dewalt and am very satisfied. The main thing for me was the Porter was not as loud as the Dewalt. I don't know much about Skil.
