slab rift sawn white oak ply for cabinet doors
Hi there,
I’m working on building some cabinets out of rift sawn WO plywood (grade A1). Question I have is do you think the doors will warp if I just use the plywood for the doors? I intend to edge band them with solid wood. The base cabinet door dimensions will be about 20 X 27 and the uppers will be 20 X 36.5.
I’m realize MDF might be the better option is I want them to stay flat but I’d appreciate your experience/advice.
Regards,
JD

Rift white oak plywood describes the outside. How it will behave depends more on the inside and the backside. Odd number of layers and the same material/ thickness front & back improves your odds.
I made my kitchen with bamboo plywood, balanced in every way. Some of the doors moved, but within hinge adjustment range for Salice euros.
You could add a hardwood cap edge to the panel both for stability and some visual interest. Tongue and grove with a lip over the panel. The lip can be a simple 90 edge or have a profile cut. Mitered corners look better with these since the cap is usually slim, less than an inch. I've heard it called a "slim shaker" style. Only name for it I know.
