I’m actually trying to find two items:
If anyone can tell me who sells high-quality slashproof carving gloves, I’d appreciate hearing from you.
I’m also looking for the kind of six-inch steel ruler that has a small measuring scale engraved on its ends (perpendicular to the main rule).
Thanks,
-Jazzdogg-
Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.

Starrett makes one. C304SRE-6 If you don't already have a favorite tool vendor, search at http://www.mcmaster.com or http://www.mscdirect.com
I guess your prompt reply qualifies as a "slam dunc!"
Thanks for supplying the model number.-Jazzdogg-

Starrett also makes a set of very short rules that might interest you. The catalog number is S423Z. Here's a picture.

My 1980 Starrett catalog says the 1/2" and 1" rules can also be furnished graduated in 50ths on one side and 100ths on the other.
Jazz',

Thanks, Dan! I just finished ordering them (as well as a bunch of other stuff, of course).

You can try a sporting goods store like Big 5 or Sportmart if you have them in your area for the gloves. Normark make one out of kevlar mesh. You should find it in the fishing department.

Hi,
I cut a knuckle open once while setting planer knives and after that purchased
kevlar gloves. I'm sorry but I don't recall the source.
The first thing I did was test the gloves on a sharp blade.
The glove cut very easily and I returned them.
Not saying that some don't work.
But test them before you use them!
Probably the most reliable slashproof gloves are made of stainless steel mesh. They are available from http://www.saftgard.com/mesh.htm.

Hello, ID. Would those be the same gloves surgeons are wearing these days? I tried the link and it did not work, but you've got my curiosity up. Thanks! When completing any project, due diligence in the removal of non-decorative pencil marks, tooling marks, and blood stains is strongly suggested.
Remove the trailing period from the URL and try again.
Thanks! I particularly like the GU-2532 - all-steel 5-finger style, shoulder-length glove. What on earth would anybody need that for?
A lot of these are used by poultry workers who have really dangerous jobs.
Can you imagine standing in front of a moving conveyor belt cutting up meat
with super sharp knives all-day-longgggg! Uggh.
There are lots of injuries in that line of work.
Glad to be a wood butcher!
