I am building a floor-to-ceiling bookcase covering an entire wall. I want to include a movable ladder that slides on a rail along the length of the bookcase that permits the top shelves to be reached (similar to the ladders in the hardware stores long ago). Has anyone seen plans for such a ladder?

My (paper) Rockler catalog sells them made up to order. Doesn't look like there is much to it after you have the hardware part of it. I would guess one could make the wheels out of wood, and make most of it in the shop. Check http://www.rockler.com. Order one of their paper catalogs and look at the picture. You probably could design your own. It doesn't look too complicated.
*Alaco Ladder manufacturers just the ladders you're looking to build. They advertise monthly in FHB. They may sell just the hardware as well.http://www.alacoladder.com/Best,Seth
