hello,
I’m looking for a clever way to install a sliding lid in a desktop from a secretaire. can anyone give me clue where to look how to do? the tabletop of the secretaire is about 35 x 25 inch. the part to slide should be about 27 x 25 inch. it should come 6 inches forward. preferable not by supporting it by two carriers underneath the top. glad for any advice.

I'd start by looking in books of period furniture, or on the sites of any of the outfits that sell furniture plans.
Encyclopedia of Furniture Making - Ernest Joyce
If you can get a look at Pg. 258, it shows a mechanism used in Cylinder Fall secretaries. There is an illustration showing how the mechanism slides the writing surface out as the cylinder is opened. May be able to adapt something from it???
