Sliding Table Saws: Chambon 285
Anyone ever use or have a colleague speak of a Chambon 285 Sliding table saw. I have an opportunity to purchase one but am having trouble getting objective information on it. This French manufacturer went out of business voluntarily several years ago. Dankaert Woodworking Machineray was the only US importer. They have provided the marketing material on the saw and speak very highly of it. Any comments welcome. Thx. CPS

Honestly, can't imagine buying any dependable machinary from France except for maybe a bicycle.

The best machinery in my shop is from France - the Inca bandsaws and jointer/planers are nothing to sneeze at. Started out Swiss, but "MADE IN FRANCE" is pretty clearly on the machines.
I can't speak for the Chambon. That sounds like it's way out of my range anyway, but I wouldn't worry about it being French. (I didn't think of Italy as a great place for machinery either, until I noticed my Hitachi air compressor was made there and kept reading about their bandsaws.)

If you wear out or break a part, are you a machinist or do you have excess to one. You won't be getting it from the manufacturer that closed.
I won't mention that I don't buy French since I visited Paris about 20 years ago. They don't seem to think a lot of us either, in fairness. ha..ha..

Post your question in the cabinetmaking forum on the http://www.woodweb.com It's a site dedicated to only professionals and it deals with larger machines.
Thank you.
