I have a vague recollection of a family run business in the US, perhaps in Iowa, which makes sliding wood bar clamps. Does anyone know their name or location?

Found it. Dubuque Clamp Works, sold by The Best Things. Based on the on-line photos I suspect they also make the similar/same clamps sold by Woodcraft, though the prices at lower at The Best Things.
Those are pretty cool, I've seen them at the local tool store. Here's the link:

Several years ago there was an article in FW about making these clamps yourself. If I remember right the author would make large batches of them. They were made with roll pins, maple blocks, steel barstock and cork.
