You will have to excuss my ignorance, but I have been a Finisher for over 20 years and have never heard of a "soap finish".I hope someone can help.
*The Hans Wegner "wishbone" chairs made by Carl Hansen in Denmark are sold in ash or beech with what they call a"soap" finish. It looks slightly bleached and almost unfinished and in theory it repels everything and is easily cleaned. I imagine that perhaps there is some confusion with lye....any ideas?
*Ethan...it sounds like wax, most likely beeswax maybe Carnuba. Good luck
Ethan,
I noticed your request whilst I was looking for the same info - did you have any luck?
I have been told that Lux pure soap flakes mixed with water to a paste does the trick (wipe on, rub off), but have not experimented with this as yet. I am wanting to use a soap finish on a rock maple cabinet.
As a matter of interest, I have the wishbone chairs (Hans Wegner), many years old, which have now darkened. I am not sure of the original finish, I presume it would be soap, so am not sure how long the lighter colour lasts.
Thank you in anticipation of any help you may be able to give,
